Canoeing

Canoeing is an activity that can be done individually or in a group.
The first canoes appeared in North America, being used by Indians in Canada as a means of aquatic locomotion. The first competition canoe appeared during the American Civil War in 1865.

The popularity of this modality led to its spread throughout the world. In Portugal, it was in the 30s that it gained greater strength, with the Portuguese Canoeing Federation being founded, years later, in 1979. For its formation, it counted, among other clubs, with the participation of A. C. de Fermentelos.

The waters of Pateira allow its practice in a free way, since there are no physical barriers in the water mirror.
Another option is to take walks.

Sailing

Sailing is a nautical sport in which boats move through the water by the force of the wind.
The first sailing vessels for sporting and recreational purposes appeared in the early 17th century by noble Danish merchants. Although it does not stand out as a world power in this sport, Portugal has been achieving some medals in this modality, the first of which in 1948.

It is also in the country that the oldest nautical club on the Iberian peninsula is located, Associação Naval de Lisboa, founded in 1856.

Pateira de Fermentelos allows the practice of this sport in its waters. Its realization involves not only the activity in leisure time, but also in the school context, allowing the students of the Sports Training Center to explore the valences of this sport.

Stand Up Paddle

Stand Up Paddle is an activity that has been gaining more and more fans. Practiced on a board, kneeling or standing, it is an individual or group modality, for any age group.

This modality is an old form of surfing that presents itself today as an autonomous discipline.
Originating in the 1960s in the Hawaiian Islands, some international athletes were responsible for its diffusion in the 90s. Although much sought after in recreation and leisure contexts, it also fits into the national competitive framework with two categories within the National SUP Circuit Wave and four (both male and female) on the National SUP Race Circuit.

The Pateira water mirror allows, in addition to this leisure practice, to find a place with ideal conditions for training.
